Two mechanics were working on your car. One can complete the given job in six hours, but the new guy takes eight hours. They worked together for the first two hours, but then the first guy left to help another mechanic on a different job. How long will it take the new guy to finish your car?

Given that the rate of one mechanic is 1/6 job/hour and the rate of another is 1/8 job/hour.
In 2 hours that they work together they complete 2(1/6+1/8)=7/12 of the job and 5/12 part of the job is left to be done.
The second mechanic to complete 5/12 of the job will need time=job/rate=(5/12)/(1/8)=10/3 hours.
Answer: D.
