Two people left cities A and B for cities B and A respectively, at the same time. They drove at constant speeds Va and Vb , and met at point P, which is k miles from A. If the person leaving city B had driven twice as fast, the two people would have met at P´, which is 0.55k miles from A. How many miles apart are cities A and B?

(1) k=20
(2) 9Va= 2Vb

A

x= distance between A and B

From Stem we get two equations
k/Va = (x-k)/Vb............Eq1

0.55k/Va = (x-0.55k)/2Vb..............Eq2
Solving these equation we get
x = 55k

St1: x = 55 * 20 = 1100 : SUFF

St2: Putting this value in eq1 we get 2x = 11k and putting in eq2 we again get 2x = 11k : INSUFF
