Argument says - Administration thought that diet cola was better as it did not have sweeteners so they rose price of non-diet, so that most students will not buy it. Parents countered that artificial sweeteners are worse. Administration plans to reduce price of non-diet believing that students will start buying non-diet cola rather than diet-cola.
Here they assume that reducing cost will lead to better outcome of lower consumption of non-diet cola. But the question asks why the plan is not good one.
A. Nutritionists have found that artificial sweeteners provide no essential vitamins or minerals. - [red]Out of scope[/red].
B. Changing the price of a beverage has not been shown to have a significant impact on the overall revenues the school earns from its beverages. -[red] revenue is out of scope[/red]
C. There have been no significant complaints concerning the prices of beverages in the school. - [red]conclusion is not supported[/red]
D. Manufacturers of sodas have found that it is less expensive to produce beverages with sugar than it is to produce beverages with artificial sweeteners. - [red]expense is not an issue . out of scope
[/red]
E. When the price of non-diet sodas was increased, most students began purchasing bottled water instead, which has no sugar or artificial sweeteners. -[red] because students were buying bottled rather than non-diet cola, reducing price will lead them to go back to buying non-diet cola rather than bottled water which will be bad for their health - Answer[/red]
As far as the goal of the school administration is concerned, it is about moving students who drink diet cola to get them to drink the non diet cola.
Can you please explain how option (E) explains the same. According to choice (e) and the explaination provided :
"because students were buying bottled rather than non-diet cola, reducing price will lead them to go back to buying non-diet cola rather than bottled water which will be bad for their health"So there is technically no explaination between students leaving diet soda for non-diet soda!
On the other hand if we see option (C), if there is no significant complains that means students are drinking whichever they want to drink. Hence changing of the prices will have no effect. Hence, a weakener.
KIndly please help me in my explaination.
