I am ready to give this GMAT thing another Shot.
Here is one basic mistake I keep doing- Misreading the question, not able to understand the question..
I mess UP basic questions because I waste so much time just trying to figure out what the question means..
I'll give you examples..
1. X is 20% more than Y - Can you write this in simple equation?
2. 20 More than Y is X
3. 20 Less tha X is Y
Sounds too basic, but thats where I need to start
1. X is 20% more than Y so X must be 120% Y. x = 1.20Y
2. 20 More than Y is X
steps: 1) translate "20 More" ==> 20 +
2) translate "More than Y" ==> + Y
3) translate "is X" ==> = X
4) combine ==> 20 + Y = X
3. Less than is subtraction and subtraction usually means the terms are reversed
steps: 1) translate "20 Less" ==> - 20
2) translate "Less than X" ==> X - 20 (here is the reversal)
3) translate "is Y" ==> = Y
4) combine X - 20 = Y
Cheers
