A.D. and B.C.
A.D. stands for the Latin Anno Domini (in the year of the Lord). Using A.D. is simple-place it before a year and after a century:
Pope Julius II, whose fertile partnership with Michelangelo produced many fine works of art, reigned from A.D. 1503 to 1513.
Arabians borrowed coffee from the Abyssinians about the twelfth century A.D.
B.C. stands for “before Christ.â€

I never heard of BP (British Petroleum?) or BCE... Common usage is simply AD, anno domini, or BC, before Christ.
Thus, if you are referring to the egyptian civ. 4k years ago, you would say 2000 years BC.
However, if you are referring to year 2000, you would say 2000 AD.

fortunately or not, I was never a history major... so I actually learned what AD and BC stand for from you 
. I am puzzled why you thought that I would be the right person to ask 
Honestly, I haven't seen/heard BP or BCE as well... so can't help much here
and for GMAT purposes, I don't think it's that necessary... I only saw questions with AD and BC in Critical Reasoning, but it was nothing like testing what those terms mean.
