Hi there,

I'm very nervous and anxious about my 3.1 GPA.

I'm a 2015 University of California, Berkeley graduate with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology focus in Physiology. I took engineering math courses and physics courses in my major and got completely wrecked in my quantitative courses B/B- average. Interestingly, the average GPA for my major was a 2.7 so relative to my peers in my degree at Berkeley I did above average. I'm super worried that top MBA programs will not recognize the rigor of the coursework I took or the rigor of my major and will be quick to judge me as stupid or not good enough for their program. I also did well in a few notoriously difficult courses like Organic Chemistry but I doubt finance programs care about that.

I have 3+ years of experience working in Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley. I passed Level 1 of the CFA exam my first time. I have my series 7/66 licenses and passed each my first time. I scored a 700 on the GMAT 40V and 46Q. My goal is to go to a top MBA program and land an Associate or Vice President role in IBD post grad then build a successful career in venture capital or private equity. I'm a 25 y/o, cis, white, male who grew up in Palo Alto, California and other than researching Alzheimer's Disease in college, playing chess competitively and competing in Ironmans do not have anything awesomely interesting about myself to differentiate myself.

I'm targeting Columbia, Kellogg, Tuck, Booth, Haas, Anderson, Ross, Johnson, Fuqua, Darden and Stern.

What are my chances of getting into any of the programs?

Any experience with how top MBA programs will look at my low GPA in a rigorous major at a prestigious undergraduate university?

I'm very nervous and anxious about my low GPA and am hoping I can show that I'm a very capable, smart and driven person through my essays and letters of recommendation.

Thanks for your help :) Good luck to everyone :)

The GPA is a bit on the low end but I wouldn't worry TOO much about it. Is there any chance you can get your GMAT score up to 720 or ideally 740? That will have the most impact in showing them that the GPA is nothing to worry about. You've got strong work experience & I think you've got what it takes to get into these top programs but the higher GMAT score would definitely help allay any concerns that you're not up for the rigors of b-school & my guess is given what you've said that with a bit more studying you might be able to increase that score?
