I gave my gmat fe today and got 625. That was shocking since i had scored 705 on my last official mock and consistently greater than 645 in other mocks i took this week. I have my mocks in exam environment with timed breaks. And i want too anxious for the test. Apart from having to guess last 5 questions in DI due to lack of time, i don’t know where i went wrong. How can the difference be so huge.
My mock test scores were Q87, verbal and di both above 80. But on actual test i got Q85, V80, DI77.
Can anyone help me understand what went wrong here?

Hi Iamriya. Sorry about the score drop. The good news, your mocks support a higher score - likely a bad day with some bad decisions made on the DI.
I think your DI underperformed due to the guessing, so that was likely a driver that pushed your score down by 40 points potentially if you were getting above DI80 (from 665 to 625).
The Quant, anything above Q85 is very finicky. It is like splitting hairs and sometimes even 2 mistakes can drive the score down to Q80 (rare but happens).
I think you can easily bounce back to at least 675 territory by not letting the timer run you down in DI and perhaps being a bit more vigilant in Quant and to get to 705 you need 13-14 sectional points.
I don't think you need to study a whole lot - just correct your DI strategy and tighten things up in Q and V and retake.

Sounds like a case of test anxiety and time management in DI.

Since time management plays a significant role in the DI section, here are some time-saving strategies to keep in mind:
- Skim the given information to understand the type of information provided. Don’t get bogged down in the details. Just get a sense of what the data is conveying.
- Use the answer choices to your advantage. In many cases, the answer choices will be so spread apart that you can quickly answer the question through approximation rather than precise calculations.
- Use the process of elimination when possible. Narrow down choices by identifying clear inconsistencies or irrelevant options in the data.
- Stay organized. Jot down quick notes or calculations to keep track of information to avoid rereading the same data multiple times.
- Prioritize quick decision-making. If a question seems too time-consuming, it’s better to make an educated guess and move on rather than get stuck. Developing this type of decision-making mindset will help you better navigate the section.
