Hi all - this is NOT a "what are my chances thread" :wink:

I'd truly appreciate any input or guidance to my two questions below, given my profile:

Profile:
Age: 29 at matriculation
Work Exp: 46-50 months in consulting for Accenture/Deloitte/Strategy& at matriculation (relatively short amount given my age. I started college late due to death of parent, resulting in my full-time employment to support family and siblings)
Ethnicity: Underrepresented Minority
GMAT: 710
GPA: 3.35 from top 25 UG business program. worked >30 hours a week through college, Had additional/advanced honors course-load, graduated with distinction
Extracurriculars: Strong
Other: First-generation American, dual-citizen, first to graduate from college
Target Programs: Top 10/15

Questions:
1. Will my age be a negative (29 at matriculation) and still classify me as getting close to the the "too-old/deep-into-career- for-MBA" bucket?
Per my profile above: started college late, graduated at 25

2. Can/should I include the 4 months of full-time work experience (with a post-grad internal consulting role at my university) to my total months of work experience?
I actually worked in this role through college but after graduating, I was promoted to a post-grad role with a good title (Manager)

Per my profile above: started college late, graduated at 25
I don't think you'll be considered "too old". Yes, you will be slightly older than your peers but I don't think your age will be an issue. I'll be 28 when I matriculate, but will turn 29 soon after. I've met a lot of other people entering programs at even older ages and so I don't think you need to be too concerned. You also have a good story to account for your time. It's not like you lived in your parents' basement for years not working or contributing to society. Your story is actually quite inspiring and I would consider it an advantage.

You might consider including it on your resume, especially if it was meaningful. If it wasn't really too meaningful, I'd leave it off and focus more on the work and accomplishments post-bachelors. I don't think I'd be too concerned with trying to show another 4 months of full-time WE. You already have around 4 years which is around the average for most schools. There are some people who come in with Masters and Phd's with much less "real" work experience and IMO I think you're already in a better position than a lot of them. I believe the adcom only uses the WE as an indicator to see if you really understand the working professional world, have a good sense of what it takes to get where you want to go, and can contribute meaningfully to the class discussions.

In all honesty, it seems like you have a pretty competitive profile for Top 10/15 which you are targeting. I'd suggest start researching schools that most align with your career aspirations and then start writing those essays!

It sounds like you have a nice 'American Dream' story to tell....but I think that hinges on what you mean by dual-citizen/underrepresented minority.
I don't think the age issue will be one because there are also a lot of European students who study until they are 24-ish and have similar amounts of WE to you at 29.
What schools were you thinking of applying to and what is your short-terms post-MBA goal?

Thanks for your feedback. To respond to your questions/comments:

1. I was born outside of the US and moved here during ~Kindergarten; I was awarded US Citizenship (via naturalization) a few years ago.
2. My short-term, post-MBA goal is to return to my current firm upon graduation or join another consulting firm.

Also I will likely pursue a fellowship with the Consortium for the following programs:
  • Tuck
  • Yale SOM
  • Johnson
  • Darden

In addition to programs above, I'm strongly considering my competitiveness at a few select "M7" programs. I will likely take a shot because never want to think "what if". That being said, it would be tough to forgo a (potential) full-scholarship from any of the Consortium programs, for a "more prestigious" program.
