Hi,
I would be happy if you rate.
Thanks
“There is a common misconception that university hospitals are better than
community or private hospitals. This notion is unfounded, however: the university
hospitals in our region employ 15 percent fewer doctors, have a 20 percent lower
success rate in treating patients, make far less overall profit, and pay their medical
staff considerably less than do private hospitals. Furthermore, many doctors at
university hospitals typically divide their time among teaching, conducting research,
and treating patients. From this it seems clear that the quality of care at university
hospitals is lower than that at other kinds of hospitals.”
Discuss how well reasoned . . . etc.

The argument assumes that the quality of care at university hospitals is lower than that at other kinds of hospitals. This conclusion is based on the premise that the university hopitals in the newspaper's region emloy less doctors, have less success rate in treating patients, make less profit, and pay their staff less than the private hospitals. However, there are some assumptions that may not be necessarily apply to this argument. Hence, the arguement is weak and has several flaws.
Fisrt, the author assumes that the fact that many doctors at the university hospitals devide their time among teaching, research and treating patients has a negative effect on the quality of care at university hospitals. This assumption is weak since a recent survey results show that 95% of the doctors, who devide their time among teaching, research and treating patients, are better than the doctors who are not.
Therefore, it seems that the fact that the doctors in university hospitals, who devide their time among other activities, has a positive effect on the quality of care at university hospitals.
Second, the argument leand on the assumption that fewer doctors at the university hospitals has a negative effect on the quality of care at university hospitals. This might not be so, as the arguement fails to take into account that the reason that the univesity hospital employ less doctors is because it keeps on a stable ratio of 1 doctor to 5 patients. By that policy the university hospital insure his high quality of care.
Finaly, it is well know that the primary factor which decide if the hospital has high quality of care is the ratio of nurses to patients in the hospital. High quality hospital has a ratio of nurses to patients of 1 nurse to 10 pateients or less. In order to strength the argument I would like to receive relevant data about the number of nurses employed by the university hospital. If it show that the nurses to patients ratio at the university hospital is higher that 1 to 10, it could server to strength the argument.
In conclusion, the arguement presented is flawed and not persuasive. It could be considerbly strengthen if the author had provided the missing data that I mentioned above. In order to assess the merits of a certain argument, a full knowledege of the relevant factors is essential.
