Option A and B compare people with the hope of travelers and are hence incorrect.
Option C is incorrect, because it compares the hope of the people with the travelers and discoverers.
Option D has awkward formation and saying hope was to acquire territory quickly is nonsensical

Option E corrects these errors and compares the people to the travelers and is the correct answer!

Must be (E), correct idiomatic usage is Unlike X, Y ,further X and Y must be parallel, none but (E) presents the same...

Ans: E

'whom' is used as "object" (incorrect) - it should be replaced by 'who'(used as subject)

"Unlike X, Y": - The people have to be compared with travelers (not with their hopes) [parallelism]

Only option E corrects and follows the above error.

When we are using unlike we compare similar nouns/terms.

Like in this case we should compare the people to the other set of people . The only option which is correct is option E.

Below are the reasons for eliminating other answer choices

A. the people is compared to the hope .
B. same as A
C. That of the people is compared with the Traveller and discoverer. The sentence construction is wrong and awkward as well.
D. same as C
