I have marked c. i wanted to know when we use until, why are we using 'therefore' here and usage of colon and semicolan in this kind of statements.

Further, i have seen many Qs in manhattan tests which are specifically on colan/semicolan.

Please help.

You use "until" when there is a specific moment. In this case, that moment is 1982.
Also, you use "as long as" when the end of an action depends on the end of other action. Example: We'll take as long as it takes.
