Thanks for the response.
I'll try to answer the bulk of the questions:
My GPA was about 3.8, I graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from U of Michigan with high honors
I want to get an MBA for a couple of reasons. 1) Although I'm only 24, my body is already starting to break down because of disc herniations and other factors 2) I really want to immerse myself in an academic community where I can meet people that have an interest in business, network, and learn as much as I can about business in realtively short period of time 3) I want to get a degree that has the ability to assist me in numerous ways, so that if I feel the need to switch careers much further down the line, I have a degree that will facilitate that and will be looked favorably upon.
I am thinking that I would love to go into strategy consulting upon graduation. I love to work in teams, I am goal orientated, and I love to solve problems and immerse myself in new environments where I can learn new skills and gain exposure to new areas.
In terms of an MBA now as opposed to later, I feel that there are few, if any, connections that I currently have to the business world being a performer. I really need the boost that a business school experience can provide in terms of a network of students/alumni/teachers as well as an invaluable core of business know-how. If I were to wait 5 years, I would still be in a similar situation, with only maybe a small amount of additional knowledge about one specific field.
Tuck is my first choice because of the students, the environment, and the teaching method. In performing, I am constantly working in teams, whether it be learning a new show with my cast, or choreographing a show and working with a director, producer, etc... Tuck puts a strong emphasis on teamwork and comradery. I also know that I am looking for a strong general business degree that will prvoe useful in whatever career path I ultimately choose, and again Tuck provides a general management degree as opposed to a specific concentration. Most importantly, however, is the fact that Tuck is such a family. As much as I enjoy competition, I know I will learn much more in a cooperative environment and bring much more to the table.
In terms of Math, that's actually a strong point for me. If it wasn't musical theatre, I was going to be a math major. Hopefully I remember it well enough. I took Calc 3 in college as one of my few electives and got an A.
Community-wise, I volunteer my time as well as fund-raise for Broadway Cares, Equity Fights Aids. I perform in many of their events, sell merchandise for charity after shows on multiple days a week, and I raise money from friends and family.
Let me know if this answers some questions!!
