I know that this sentence is wrong-

Does my mail sounds so.

The correct version, i guess is ,Does my mail sound so.

My question - Why should we use sound and not sounds.
When do we use do/does/did. what are the rules associated with their usage.

Look at the transformations(sounds <--> does sound)and (affirmative to interrogative)

Does this not have anything to do with plural/singular form of the verb sound.
i thought the verb sound is plural and sounds is singular.
like,
it sounds like something to me. (it, the subject, is singular and so is sounds)
they sound like something to me. ( they, the subject, is plural and so is the verb sound.).

In my sentence
Does my mail sounds so -

i suppose, mail is the subject and it is singular.

Does... sounds is the verb and is it singular or plural.

Also, what are the rules associated with the usage of do/did/does.

I know that did is the part tense of the verb do.

only singular third person in present(perfect, progressive, continuous) is marked.

he is working:they are working
he comes: they come
he does come: they do come
he has come: they have come
he has been working: they have been working

he came:they came
he did come:they did come
he had come:they had come
