Please help me understand the usage of to and with in respect of:
compared to and compared with?
contrast to and contrast with?
If anybody can give more examples of how to use with and to, it will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
compared to is used to compare unlike things
(resemblance between unlike things)
He compared her to a summer day.
Compared with is used when we have two like things
The police compared the forged signature with the original.
Also,,,,,,When we have just like things ...
compared to is generally used when you want to stress on the dissimilarities between two subjects that you are using in the sentence for comaprison..
whereas
compared with is used to stress on the similarities between the two subjects...
.........
I m not sure about in contrast with..
but in contrast to is an idiomatic usage in gmat land
