Hello everybody,
I am currently employed in an aerospace company making six figures and a reserve army officer based out in Southern California (though I am open to relocating in the future probably to Texas); I'm looking to do an online MBA to prepare myself to become a program or product manager either within my current organization and field or branch out to other organizations in that role.
I've been offered $15,000 towards my tuition for the USC OMBA program and my company is willing to cover up to $15,000 a year.
Being that I am also an alumni of USC from undergrad, is it worth the $80,000 premium for tuition for the USC OMBA program over the $24,000 total tuition for BU? Or is the Marshall brand that much more worth it? With the scholarship and employer assistance in mind, USC would still cost me $64000 + taxes (from employer assistance) out of pocket while I'll probably only have to pay taxes on the tuition assistance for BU.
Looking forward to see your thoughts
Thanks!
I've looked into OMBA options, and I'd stack USC's way above BU's ... but ... free isn't a bad thing, and in this day and age, it may be a great thing.
... however ...
A concern I'd have about me ... if I were in an online-only (or nearly only) program ... that was free ... I'd be ever so tempted to not work at it very hard. Now, if it was a free FT, in-person program, I'd get a ton out of it ... but, because there's not any actual people sitting next to me, holding me accountable, I'd be tempted to believe that I'd get far less out of it than a program I actually spent money to attend.
I feel weird saying all that as I'm feeling like a huge cheap-skate recently ...

Good luck in your choices.
PS -- If you can still apply to and get in Ross before having to make a choice, I'd absolutely apply there. IMO, they're the BEST combination of "prestigious MBA degree" and online flexibility. Besides, mixing the USC network with the Michigan network could be great -- unless they faced each other in the Rose Bowl sometime soon!
