1) insuff, as v can be equal to 0 or 1
2) insuff also,

Both they are insuff as well: v=w(v^2), v = 0 or v = 1/2
1/2=2{(1/2)^2} and
0=2*0^2

Yep,

Second M8 on the answer and the approach. It is E

Though irrelevant, V is either 0 or 1/w. Doesn't matter really. :lol:

I would also go for A

v= wv^2
v-wv^2=0
v(1-wv)=0
v=0 or v=1/w now v and w both are different integer so v=0

See the original problem. v & w are different integers. The only integer that the stem can be tru for is 0.
I choose C

I think i remember seeing this one n OG....

st1)v=wv^2
=> v-wv^2=0
=>v(1-wv)=0 so either v=0 or wv=1 so insufficient
wv=1 its only possible when w=1 &v=1 or w=-1 or v=-1 as both w & v are different integers,
so means wv!=1 means v=0----------sufficient

St2) w=2 insufficient

I wud go with A

From 1:

v= w(v^2)

Thus w(v^2) - v =0
or v(vw-1) =0

Thus, v=0 or v = 1/w.

Now w and v are differnt INTEGERS! Only way for v to be an integer is w = 1 or -1!

Then v will also be the same as W!

Thus v=0!

I wud go with A

From 1:

v= w(v^2)

Thus w(v^2) - v =0
or v(vw-1) =0

Thus, v=0 or v = 1/w.

Now w and v are differnt INTEGERS! Only way for v to be an integer is w = 1 or -1!

Then v will also be the same as W!

Thus v=0!

should be A because the question says different integers.
if v and w are different integers, v must be 0 irrespective of w to hold v = w(v^2).

also A for the same reason as professor's......v can only be the same as wv^2 if v=0 (if v&w are different integers)

v = wv^2
v(1-wv) = 0
v =0 or wv = 1 --> v,W = 1,1 or -1,-1.

wv = 1,1 and -1,-1 are out because v and w are different.

Sufficient.

St2:
w=2. Insufficient. No information abotu v.
