I don’t quite agree with the solution. the passage clearly states "most of the patrons of those farmers' markets consider low prices to be a priority when selecting fruit," then what's the point of answer choice being correct when it is directly opposing to what is stated in the premise.

Hi popcorn98 let me try to help

Lets check question stem- Which of the following, if true, best explains Sol Citrus’s decision not to lower prices?, we need to identify the explanation for why SOl citrus owners are lowering the price given that most of the patrons of those farmers' markets consider low prices to be a priority when selecting fruit. Just think, does the author state that the low price is the only metric of buying citrus fruit, no right, so there must be other condition before buying the citrus fruit by the patrons of that market even though the low price is one of the priority. Now coming to question, we need the reason why the owners didnt lower the price, because the market share of sol citrus is under attack and might face competition from Mega citrus.

Which of the following, if true, best explains Sol Citrus’s decision not to lower prices?

D. When purchasing citrus fruit, most customers of the farmers' markets consider the fruit’s classification as "organic" to be more important than the cost of the fruit.- Option D says most customers of the farmers' markets consider the fruit’s classification as "organic" to be more important than the cost of the fruit, being organic is more important than price consideration. hence it justifies then why they are not decreasing the price.

Hi Abhishek, Thanks for the reply. But I would have chosen the option D if there were no other explanation present. Option E is providing an alternate explanation for the prices not being lowered. Acc. to my thought process, option E has provided us with information why SOL citrus is not tensed about lowering the prices is because they know that the competition isn't present for long in the market since they will be charged for selling the illegal produce and won't be able to keep the prices low for long or even won't be in the market. And if option D had a little changed wording for eg some other word in place of "most of the customers" I would have considered D to be the better option.

Hi popcorn98 fair enough. You made a valid point, however we are assuming too many things out of the argument

Lets check option E

E. Unlike Sol Citrus, Mega Citrus grows genetically modified fruits sprayed with pesticides that are illegal in the state in which Sol Citrus is located.-The option says Mega citrus grows genetically modified fruits on which pesticides are sprayed, and this spray is illegal in sol citrus location and sol citrus is not doing like mega citrus. Mega citrus grows at different location where this pesticide is legal but do the consumer have knowledge of this? No right. If they dont know then are they going to consider Mega citrus which is available at lower price than sol citrus but before price they also take into consideration which comes before price. No right. So if we are comparing option D and E, option D provide better premise to justify why the sol citrus price is not lowered, because they know what customers prefer.

Even you can insert the option D and E separately to check which one is making more sense. I understand there can be many reasons for now lowering the price, however we need to the best among given.

Hope this helps
