I agree, even the PR book goes out of its way to stress the importance of the first 10 questions. But that still shouldn't push out such a low score? I've seen people getting 14-15 wrong to get a score so bad.

Additionally the test wasn't even structured properly. It vomited out 5 CR passages at me and one of them (a long, science passage) only correlated with one question. So I wasted 2-3 minutes making notes on the passage and reading it only to realize it was associated with only 1 general questions (Main idea).

To put things into perspective, I started practicing CATS about a month ago.

Princeton Review CAT 1: V33
MGMAT CAT 1: V36 (I had timing issues)
MGMAT CAT 2: V41.
GMAT Prep 1: V41.

All four tests taken within a span of four weeks. So at least for me, there was a real and questionable difference.

makes me feel a lot better. if you don't mind me asking, how many were you getting wrong in the verbal section when you were averaging 40s?

My cousin lent me a **** load of gmat paper cats, photocopied. Why is it paper and cat? Well, they are on paper and they have GMAT Practice CAT written on the top. The questions are of varying difficulties and everything's been photocopied so I don't even know which books they are from. But I thought I'd use them for practice and I've been averaging 38-41 each test. Which is why I was so dissapointed in PR's score.

Oh well, not much to do. Will start my Quant prep tomorrow, got all 5 MGMAT quant books to go through. I'll keep practicing my verbals and try not to read too much into PR...

GMATPrep:
Like a fool, I closed the software windows before reviewing. However, I remember getting 10 wrong with a V41.

Notes:
MGMAT CAT 1: I did not do the AWA and IR sections.
MGMAT CAT 2: I took the whole test.
GMAT Prep: took the whole test

Princeton Review CAT 1: V33 31 wrong  pretty awful stats on this one!
This was my first test. I did the AWA but skipped the other essay.

Yes I would recommend setting aside the PR Cracking the GMAT book. Mine is laying around gathering dust. At some point the GMAT was a paper test and the paper tests that you have are from that era. GMAC still sells them on their website though. One more suggestion: don't do only quant or verbal for long stretches. Keep doing a little of both. I tried doing quant for a stretch and switching to verbal but it was not helping me.

I had taken the new GMATPREP CAT last week and I got a VA 21 and QA 48. Total score was 570. But I am a little perplexed by how you got a VA 36 with 17 wrong.

Because I landed a VA 21 with 17 wrong on GMATPREP. Is there something fishy here or is it normal? Any inputs?

i got a v27 with 9 wrong. im realizing now getting right or wrong matters little. apparently the level of questions account for your scores. i don't anyone can get mid-600s or higher with only easy-medium questions. so basically if you mess up in the start, your done unless u work really hard and get the cat to raise ur difficulty. thats my theory anyway...

My V36 was on my MGMAT CAT 1, not GMATPrep. And like I always say, don't focus on the algorithm, just focus on doing your best.
