Hi Bunuel

This is an Evaluate type of question. If there is heavy rainfall during the 2 years - yes then the yeild was better it is due to new hybrid seeds other features other than drough resistance.

If there is Heavy rainfall - No . then the yeild was due to Drought resistance features.

But in case of evaluate question, Yes/No both should not support the conclusion right? Can you help me understand

Hi. It took me a minute to understand your question - it is pretty clever! You are definitely thinking deep though on the GMAT you have to have a balance so you don't exert too much effort on simpler questions. Usually GMAT logic is fairly immediate unless these are the hardest questions.

So I take it your main concern is - what if there is rain. In that case, we still don't know if the seeds helped or not, right?

  • Rainy outcome = Information. If we discover rainfall rose, we learn the improvement might not be due to drought resistance. That is exactly what an evaluate an argument question asks for: information that can change our confidence either way. Maybe Yes or Maybe no. Note that the question asks for the MOST HELPFUL, NOT ULTIMATE.
  • Dry outcome = Support. If rainfall stayed low, yet yields still rose, the seed’s drought-tolerance gains credibility.

Both ways, the information would be helpful though in case of the Dry outcome it would be much more helpful and since the other answer choices are really not great, or that helpful, this is still the best one.

Hope this helps.
