Hi I am trying to decide between two schools. Vanderbilt Owen with no $ and Boston College Carroll with 40k scholarship.
If I attended Owen I think I would want to try to break into management consulting, non MBB as my gmat scores aren’t that high and Owen isn’t really a MBB Target. Maybe Deloitte, PWC, EY etc.
I am aware that breaking into consulting at BC would be extremely difficult so if I went there I would try to break into asset management since BC has a specialized coursework and connections in the Boston area. Possibly go for a masters in finance at the same time.
I would like to add that I live very close to BC and would save a great deal on living expenses. I don’t have related work experience for consulting or finance. Do you think Vanderbilt is worth potentially an extra 100k over BC?
I am a bit torn at pursuing consulting at Owen or picking Carroll for Finance which seems like a safer option. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am one of Vandy's biggest fans and an Owen graduate, I absolutely love Nashville, but I do not think Vandy is worth $100k more than BC.
FWIW, the pipeline into consulting from Owen is steady to North Highland, Deloitte's Atlanta office, and there's always a few people who go to KPMG, PWC, or the boutique firms each year. However, it is pretty competitive to land those roles. Your GMAT score is still important for consulting even outside of MBB.
If you are dead-set on Vandy, wait a year, bump up your GMAT score, and get Owen to offer you some scholly money. If that's not on the cards, I don't think you should spend an extra $100k for the same degree.

In my opinion Vanderbilt is worth the dollar. The gap is huge enough to pay extra.
