For a person who is decently strong in Maths is it recommended to take Verbal first or work on strength first and then weakness ?

I would recommend you to do both of them in parallel.
You can start with SC and Quant and then move on to CR and then RC, keeping your Quant preparation in parallel.

Some students say they prefer to focus on their strengths first - that way it gives them time to increase their confidence on the test.

But I would say a vast majority of students tend to have more energy in the beginning - and want to use that energy on their weakest section first.

So given your past testing history - which one works for you?

Like many of my students, I prefer to focus on weakness first.

Hi renjana,

You ask an important question - but there isn't a 'one size fits all' answer. Some Test Takers choose to start the GMAT with their 'better' section, so that they can build up some confidence before starting the second section. Others would rather start with their 'second-best' section, so that they can attack that section while they have the most energy and are the most alert.

There are other factors to consider of course, including how long it might take you to 'settle down' once you begin the Test, how you will feel after the first 'break', what you could potentially do on that break to 'recharge', etc. As you continue to study, it's important to take your CATs in a realistic fashion (take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you'll take the Official GMAT, etc.). You can also experiment a bit with which section you take first - and even when you begin your Exam - so that you can determine the best 'options' for YOU to maximize your overall performance.

If i know that my Quant is 45+ for sure and verbal is bit weak then I will definitely start the exam with Verbal first, as I can use more brain in verbal. But then, there is always a risk of screwing up your Quant too.
I will still say go for Verbal first.
