I am not very strong at math and English is my third language. So I decided to put twice as much effort into Verbal part. I started off at miserable 460 Q31 V18 half a year ago. My most recent score is 560 Q47 V19. Throughout this whole time, only quantitative score increased, which is weird because I don't really do much instead of reviewing my notes all the time.
I finished Powerscore CR Bible,
MGMAT CR,
MGMAT SC, Aristotle SC, and Kaplan Premier. It is very frustrating because I tackled hundreds of SC and CR questions. I would do tests in quiz bank over and over again. I sacrificed so many things just for Verbal. Also, I try to read more, use English as much as possible. But still I am stuck at verbal. Now I am starting to question the saying: practice makes it perfect, because in my case it is not true at all!
I don't know what I am doing wrong. Please help!
The fact that you have studied for so long, and have seen fluctuations in your scores might indicate a problem with your study habits.
As you study, we recommend that you focus on quality over quantity.
Doing hundreds of hundreds of more questions without really understanding the concepts or the booby traps that you’re falling into will not necessarily get you where you want to be.
Try going back to previous questions and seeing if you can answer them with ease. The more you can answer correctly, the more likely it is that you understand the material.
As you study, we recommend that you focus on one particular subsection for multiple consecutive days before moving onto the next. You can see this in our study plan where we recommend 5 days on nothing but SC -- before moving onto CR and then RC.
Here is a customized 2-3 month study plan that can help boost your score:
