I took the GMAT for the first time.
Verbal : 34
Quant : 25
Total: 500
AWA: 5.5
IR: 2
I studied for about a month on and off as much as I could. I can't believe how poorly Prior to starting to prepare I took the diagnostic test and that indicated my verbal skills were above average and my quant skills were below. With that in mind I basically only worked on the Quant for about 4 weeks, roughly 30 hours of prep. I can't believe how poor I performed in the quantitative section. I didn't do any practice tests, so I think that was problem #1. I studied as followed: I used the
Magoosh website, and watched all of the Quant videos and worked practice problems, that is pretty much it.
I am going to take the test again in December. I am thinking about signing up for a Kaplan course.
Any suggestions for studying would be appreciated. How much can i realistically expect to raise my score?
With Quant -- you want to be comfortable with all the variations off of any core question you might see on the exam. For example, you might see a sum of sequence question. In practice, you might be comfortable with 1 to 100 -- but what if on the exam, you are asked about 101 to 150?
With rates -- you might be comfortable with two people moving towards each other -- but what about when two people are moving away from each other?
This is the approach we take in our course -- we take the most common core problems -- and we walk students around different variations off of that core problem -- so if you see a similar looking question but slightly different, you'll still be ok.
With math - there's only so many ways they can test you on the same underlying question. You just need to be able to understand all angles and leave no opening to get caught.
