Best CR book. CR bible or Veritas Prep CR ?

Question

I am a new entrant into the GMAT world

.. I plan to take up the GMAT by feb 2012. So far I have understood that my weakness is the Critical Reasoning section. Could anyone please suggest me the best book for CR for beginners and even for advanced CR?I have read reviews of PowerScore CR bible and Veritas Prep CR 1&2. I'm confused and would like to zero down on the best bet for me,as I understand that it is best to invest in one of the two and follow the tips/strategies etc

Personally, I liked the CR Bible text book. It covers the topic pretty comprehensively and provides about 50 practice questions which are more similar to GMAT CR than any other source IMHO.

If I were you, I would follow this schedule to destroy CR, chronologically:

1. CR Bible - slowly and understand every single aspect, preferably twice. Work through the practice questions and properly understand how GMAT derives analogies,etc.

2. OG 12 - All CR questions - By now you will understand what type of answers are correct and incorrect. Read the explanation to ensure that the reason you got a question correct is valid or not.

3. After you become comfortable with OG 12 and Verbal Review (if you want), Practice some LSAT CR questions. Much more difficult and complicated than GMAT to fine tune your Reasoning Skills.

4. Before say 15-20 days of your test, use GMATPrep Documents to move back to the GMAT mode and hammer the final nail into the CR Coffin.

Remember CR is all about practice! It is very easy to master.

I hope you find your stay here beneficial. I used the Power Score CR Bible and I found the strategies in it practical and useful. I highly recommend the book. And you're right, once you decide to invest on a book you must devote yourself to learning and applying all the strategies in that book. It's unhealthy to drift from one book to another after a peripheral read. It's important to apply the concepts. It's the only true way of learning

I haven't used any resources from Veritas Prep, though it is a reliable company.

With that said, the general consensus on this website is that the Powerscore CR Bible stands as the best CR guidebook available. I used this book and can vouch for its quality; it's a fantastic product.
