I took the gmat today, scored 730 - Q49 (78%) V40 (91%) IR 8 - Overall 730 (96%).
I want to get admitted to Harvard, Stanford or Chicago.
My quant and verbal scores are fairly representative of my ability. With a lot of effort and luck I could probably increase my quant to 50 maximum.
I did an undergraduate degree in general BA, and my work experience is not strong math related (Tactical combat officer in the navy). My GPA 96 out of 100 (4 I think).
Should I retake in order to increase my quant from 49 to 50? (maybe I can increase my verbal 1 or 2 points but again Only with luck and my A game).
I want to get admitted to Harvard, Stanford or Chicago.

With a score of 730, IF you do happen to get dinged from any of those schools, it almost certainly will NOT be due to your GMAT score.
I'd say work on other area's of your application

Hi GAL064,
First off, a 730/Q49 is a outstanding score (it's above the 90th percentile overall), so you should apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest is not necessary. You've named some remarkably competitive Schools, so you have to be sure that you have a strong OVERALL profile AND that you 'market yourself' correctly to each individual Program. You would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:
