Hello, everybody.
I haven't posted much but I have been avid reader of the forum for the past year and hoped that I could ask for some opinions and help on my situation. I'm retaking the test in seven days and my results are less stellar than I expected.
I took the test last November and did 560(35Q/33V), AWA 5. My AWA result was consistent with my preparation but my overall score was not! My test results were GMATPrep1 - 580, GMATPRep2 - 600, Kaplan Premier 17 CATs - 620/570/590/600/640/680. I expected Quant to be around the 50th - 55th% and Verbal around 70th - 75th%. While I studied I used OG 17 (revised edition), OG Quant, OG Verbal, Kaplan Premier 17,
Manhattan GMAT Guide Series and Peterson's 2014. The score my target school requires is 550-650 - Admission Committee, 650+ - direct admission. I was rejected but due to personal reasons wouldn't be able to start anyhow.
After I resolved my personal reasons, I decided I still want to go to the same school and decided that I ought to retake the GMAT. My target score is 650+, 700+ would be quite fulfilling and rewarding. This was two months ago.
I went through OG 17, OG Quant and OG Verbal for the problems (making sure I don't recall them) and scanned through Kaplan Premier 17,
Manhattan GMAT Guide Series and Peterson's 2014 in order to brush up on my theoretical knowledge and tactics on each of the sections and question types. This time I focused more heavily on understanding and analysing my mistakes and keeping error-log.
For the past week I have been in "hardcore before-test day" mode - that is, schedule as close as possible to what will happen on test day, including waking up, meals, GMAT flow (AWA, IR, Quant, Verbal), brakes...the whole nine yards. The results, as I mentioned, are less than stellar. Economist GMAT Quant and Verbal only CAT1 - 620, CAT2 - 640, CAT3 - 640, GMATPrep1 - 640, GMATPrep2 - 600, VeritasPrep CAT 1 - 640.
I'm non-native English speaker. I consistently fall between the 50th - 60th% on Quant and 70th - 80th% on Verbal. My math isn't that great and I'm quite realistc about it, but I like to think that my Verbal is good enough to be able to pull the lower Quant score over the 650 mark.
On Quant my weaker areas are DS, as sometimes I fail to see the "big picture" and miss things, and general Statistics.
On Verbal my weaker areas are argument deconstruction and if a RC passage is longer or more complicated I sometimes get lost in it, while trying to keep in mind the overall structure (Passage Map doesn't seem to help).
I have a week left and I just purchased six CATs from VeritasPrep.
I would very heartily accepts suggestions based on my general situation and strategy as well as recommendation about flaws in my approach I might be missing.
Best
