Critical Reasoning Assumption question

Hi guys,

Just wanted to confirm that for assumption questions we just look at the conclusion and give the answer by negating all answer choices and what would weaken it the most right. In other words , look at the conclusion and in that we see what is being assumed and not the full argument right

It may not be as simple or efficient to reach the correct answer by following this in a complex question. GMAT content providers provide various techniques to do that and it entirely depends on your preferred choice, something that not only suits you personally but also helps you reach the correct answer in the most effective way. Many GMAT course providers suggest you pre-think before you look at the options. So you can connect the dots between Premise and Conclusion in your head to find an assumption and then look for that assumption in the options. This is actually quite effective once you train your mind enough to quickly reach the correct assumption in your head. This will not always give you the right answer, but it will certainly help improve your grasp of the concept and improve your results.
Negation comes in as the last resort once you have eliminated the most obviously wrong choices. If you negate all 5 options, it will probably take you better part of 2 minutes just on that effort. It would be best to use negation as a last resort on 1-2 choices and no more than that.

I must say this approach can work on easy level questions but not the hard ones.

You must always understand what the argument is trying to convey before making a call.

Also, if you negate all the answer choices, you will end up wasting alot of time and thus the questions.

So, negation test should be applied only when you are confused in 2 options.

Anazeer  I agree with what  abhimahna  said and in addition to that try to pre-think the missing information that is needed to foolproof the conclusion; the information that will secure the position of conclusion without any doubts - before you look at the answer choices.
