I just took Veritas Prep's practice test without any preparation and got a 630 (37Q, 41V, 6IR). My goal is reaching 730.
Initial thoughts about my first test:- IR: This wasn't too bad. I look at spreadsheets all the time for work, so it wasn't difficult to navigate through the tables in this section. However, there are some math concepts I need to brush up on, which brings me to...
- Q: I got A's in math throughout high school and college, but I have apparently forgotten everything that I learned. A 37 is pretty bad, but I feel that once I start reviewing the math concepts this section will become much, much easier.
- V: I felt fine on this section and finished with 10 minutes left. I recently studied for the LSAT, which explains why RC and CR were a breeze. My weakness was the sentence correction, but this question type was largely foreign to me, so, with practice, I feel as though this question type will give me the biggest opportunity for improvement.
Study plan:- Timetable: I'd like to take the test in the beginning of February (4 months), but this is a soft deadline, as I intend to take the test whenever I feel like I can hit my target score. I work full-time, so I will be studying 5 to 10 hours per week depending on how busy things are at work.
- Focus: I will focus almost exclusively on Quant. When I do study for Verbal, it will almost exclusively be SC. I feel that my LSAT studying has prepared me as much as possible for CR and RC
- Materials:
Manhattan Prep Complete Strategy Guide, GMAT Official Guide Bundle
- Practice Tests: I will take my next practice test after I finish the
Manhattan Prep Complete Strategy Guide, then I will take one a week with review in between (I will purchase more tests if necessary)
How does this look as a plan of attack?
Are there any other resources you would suggest, specifically to improve my Quant score? If I can improve my Verbal score 1 point to 42, then I probably need a 48Q to get to 730.
Is this realistic?
