Hi Everyone,
I took the GMAT three days ago for the second time in three weeks. Three weeks ago I scored a 700 Q48 V38.
I chose to take the Verbal section first. I felt great. The questions were challenging, but I was prepared. I finished the verbal section on time and took the 8 minute break. When I started the Quant section the test froze on the first quesiton. I was unable to confirm my answer and move on to the second question. The test proctor had to get someone on the phone to troubleshoot. This took about 6 minutes. Once my test was unfrozen, the proctor entered a code given to him over the phone to reset my time, but he reset it incorrectly. I told him that he took an extra two minutes away, but he said I was wrong. I started on question two with a time deficit (57 minutes on the clock). One minute later the proctor came back in and said that I was right. He paused the test and entered another code to reset my time to 59 minutes. After that I experienced no more issues. The Quant section felt good. I was getting challenging questions and I felt prepared to answer most of them.
When I finished the test I expected to score in the 720-730 range. I knew my verbal was stronger and my quant felt the same as the first time I took the exam. My score came out - 680 Q43 V40. I was shocked. Quant has always been my strong point on the GMAT. I believe my score was docked becuase of the test freezing and timing issues. Is this something that GMAC would do? If they did dock my score is there anyway to find out? Is there any way that GMAC will recognize that I was unfairly penalized? I understand that maybe I was a bit frazzled from the test freezing and maybe I preformed worse than usual on Quant....but a 43?? That score is so far below every practice test I have taken and real GMAT I've taken.
My practice test quant scores were very consistent.
Practice Test Q scores in chronological order:
Gmat Prep Q48
Gmat Prep 2 Q47
Gmat Prep 3 Q49
MGMAT Q46
Gmat Prep 4 Q49
MGMAT Q47
1st Actual Exam this year - Q48
My GMAT Q score from two days ago - Q43
I believe I was penalized for the test freezing on me and the proctor resetting my time twice. I'm interested to hear other opinions on this. I understand that it's possible I had a melt down after the exam froze.... But I find that hard to believe given the consistency of my Q scores and the preparation I took for this test. I believe I was robbed of the score I deserved (720-730) and another $250 to retake the exam.
I cancelled the score and opened up an incident report with GMAC immediately after the test. I plan on taking the test again in two weeks.
Any thoughts?
