Hi guys!
I hope you are all fine during this corona madness.
After I worked through all MGMAT quant books, I did the free GMAT Club CAT test for quant.
The score was 44 and I was okay with that. My target score is >= 670 and 44 is not too bad considering that my (regular, not online) GMAT is scheduled on June 19th.
Since then, I started working through the Verbal books. Today, I felt like doing another GMAT Club CAT for quant just to see where i stand. And I am shocked: The result was 30!
I would like to post them here to ask you guys for some advice or help in the interpretation. How can that happen?
Looking on the results, I do see that I did better on the first one. But I doubt that they are that different to pull result in a difference from 44 to 30. They even had quite similar pattern: The first two are wrong in both and the last ones I managed to screw up in both CATs.
Please find attached both PDFs of the results and a table that I made to visualise the different answers.
I would be very happy if someone helps me to justify the huge difference (44 vs 30).

To start, taking an individual section of the GMAT - outside of the context of taking the FULL Exam under realistic testing conditions - is not a great way to measure your GMAT skills (and how you might perform on the Official GMAT). In addition, there are a variety of factors that can impact your performance, including the type of Exam that you're using, the time of day that you start the Exam, the testing conditions, how well-rested you are, etc.
Back in early March, you noted that you had taken a practice CAT and scored 460. Have you taken any other FULL-LENGTH CATs since then (and if you did, then how did you score - including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores?)? If you have not taken any new CATs over the last 2 months, then you should plan to take one soon (perhaps this weekend). Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can discuss the results and how best to proceed.

Unfortunately the algorithm is adaptive and that means you can’t compare tests very easily or use the number of the wrong answers as an indicator of a final score. In addition, some of the questions on the gym at our experimental and that’s do not count towards your score which makes scoring even more elusive... This is not just a limitation of the GMAT Club tests but something you encounter with tests including GMAT prep. You can see it In a topic called GMAT prep what if scenarios where the same number of wrong answers can change the score substantially depending on where in the test those mistakes are made.
I would recommend looking at the questions with mistakes and see if you can spot certain topics that perhaps threw you off. Usually fluctuations and scores are an indicator of gaps in your knowledge base.... But they also can be just flukes and glitches where you got distracted for a second and missed a few more questions. There is a standard air built-in into every test. GMAT has a standard error of 40 points. Tess I’m not perfect so your score can fluctuate easily 40 points up and down. This is total score, not raw sectional score...
My recommendation would be to focus on your mistakes. Don’t get too fixated on the scores but work on illuminating mistakes. The key to getting high score is making a few mistakes as possible on the test and finishing it within the allocated time. That should be a key focus.
