Hi ajeetsinghcet05,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied in total? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH and including the MGMAT CATs)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hello Everyone,

I have my Actual GMAT Test scheduled on 17-11-2020 and my Target score is 710.

I have attempted almost 10 Mocks by now but could not score beyond 660(Q49,V31).

My Quant score is consistently in the Q48-49 range but my verbal Score is not going beyond V31.

I have timing issue in my Verbal part.
I always take more time in the first half of the test [eg. first 18 Questions- 42 to 45 Mins.] with accuracy of 75-80%.
But in the 2nd half because of lack of time, I end up guessing at least 4 to 5 Questions(including one whole RC Passage).

I am getting good Accuracy in SC and CR Questions overall but in RC I am not able to get more than 5-6 Qs. Correct out of 12-13 Questions.
[Because I get most of the Questions of 3rd & 4th Passages Wrong.]

I know that i have to manage my time well in the first half of the test so that i can have sufficient time for the second half, but when i tried doing so
my accuracy in first half went down and I still scored in the same range.

My Scores in mocks are :

GMAT Prep Mock 1: 590 (Q45, V27)

GMAT Prep Mock 2: 660 (Q49, V31) [after one week of first mock]

GMAT Prep Mock 3 : 640 (Q48, V31) [after 2 weeks]

Verita's Prep Mock 1: 650(Q47, V32). [after 1 week]

GMAT Prep Mock 1 (Retake) 640 (Q49, V28) [Last Week]

GMAT prep Mock 2 (Retake) 640 (Q49, V28).[last Sunday]

[i have saved my remaining 3 Official GMAT-PREP Mockes for last two week of the prep]

Other than this I took 3 MANHATTAN MOCKs as well and scored in 590 to 630 Range. [3 Mocks remaining]

I have less than a month for my actual GMAT and i want to achieve my target score of 710.

Can somebody help/guide me and suggest how can I best utilise my last 25 days before the actual GMAT.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ajeet,

I think you should be focusing on learning the methodology to solve Verbal questions. I would suggest you to start with RC and then move to SC and CR. Do not just ignore SC and CR as you have good accuracy in them because it is always better to learn the right method to solve questions.

The right way to approach RC questions:

To solve RC questions, it is important that you use the right reading strategies. It is important to understand the purpose of RC passages in the context of GMAT. GMAT tests your ability to comprehend and infer the intention behind writing the passage. So, while reading the passage, make sure you read to understand the purpose of the passage. While reading each sentence, try to understand its purpose, its connection with the previous sentence and with the paragraph as a whole. Once you finish reading a para, make sure you summarize it in your own words. Do this for each para and derive the main point of the passage. Do not focus more on details because you can always come back to that part if you come across a detail-based question.

How should you improve your methodology?

  • Firstly, learn the right methodology to solve questions
  • Solidify your learning by practicing a few questions (Do not time yourself at this stage. Take your time while solving questions)
  • Once you are confident about the method, start taking timed quizzes (For example, take 2 Rc passages and solve them under 16 minutes)
  • Gradually reduce the time limit for every quiz

This has to be the ideal way to learn the methodology and to get used to the time constraint. You can find the relevant videos for SC and CR in the Youtube channel of GMATWhiz. I feel you need more practice (especially RC) so that you can improve on your timing.

All the best!

Yes, but spend more time with official questions than unofficial practice questions.

Seems, you are mostly done with concept. Only that application is lacking, a situation i can relate to too.

Check this post out.

Need to look deeply into your strategy. Also, reading comprehension does matter in GMAT - how good you are at reading a passage and comprehending it(the flow and structure of passage). So, if possible, read NYT, The Economist etc. from GMAT perspective.
GMATNinja CR/RC videos are great to pump up your last stage prep.
