Advice needed for next Gmat test

Hi everyone
I am writing this to ask for some advice relate to my Gmat test
On Sep 2020 i took my first Gmat test and score 630(q49, v27). I spent last 4 month practice and then took Gmac mock test 1-6 and score 720,740.710.720.720.680 respectively ( (Q 50,51 and V37-38), also test 1, 2 may be alittle higher as i already done it before ). Given this quite consistent score in mock test i book another real test on Jan 09 2021 and score 580(q48,v23)

. I was shock when the score appear on the screen. I cannot understand how can i score quite consistent in the mock test and so low on real test I am lost and frustrated now and dont know what to do. Please let me know if you have any advice for me. Thank you all

Hi Pooki,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied in total? Over the last 3 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used over the course of ALL of your studies? What 'brands' of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your 2nd GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Thank you for answering my question.
I spent last 10 months full time study Gmat, I bought Magoosh account as my friend recommended 10 month ago and used up all the practice test and question already. My study materials are very plentiful, I studied: Gmat official guide both Verbal and Quantitative, Sentence correction grail, power score gmat, Gmat club grammar book, gmat club questions, Manhattan Gmat Critical reasoning, Power score GMat CR... 
My Gmat offical mock test score:
T1: 730 Q 51 V38 Jan 2 2021
T2 740 Q50 V40 Jan 04 2021
T3: 720 Q50 V 36 Dec 02 2020
T4 710 Q50V35 Dec 07 2020
T5: 720 Q50 V37 Dec 23 2020
T6:680 Q50 V30 Dec 28 2020
Beside i also did the 15 mock test of Expertglobal gmat, score : 710-720 , Vetilas 7 test : 650-680( these test i ve done first couple month of practice)
My target is 720+ and I am planning to get to a B school on Sept 2021( seem so hard right now as the deadline of last round coming). I am planing to apply to school in US: Cornell, Ross, Columbia business school, Yale SOM
 I havenot bought the ESR yet but i will try to get it now.

Hello Pooki,

A score of 580 in the Official GMAT tells that basic is intact, and the ground is prepared. Now you need to practice hard and hardest level questions and take as many mock tests as possible. Create the error log and try access to the specific areas and topics that require improvement.

Also, I fully understand your frustration because, with my GMAT tutoring, guidance, and counseling experience, we have to accept a fact with a pinch of salt that diagnostic/ mock test scores are above then what one should expect in a real test. There is often dropping in the score. Some students have even experienced a drop of 100+ pointers. It is one of the realities, and your preparation should not sideline this fact.

A couple of things that can be a noticeable barrier to your scores would be some or all of the below.

• No expert support (maybe) who can tutor, analyze, and guide you during your learning, especially on hard level questions while stably hitting middle-level questions.
• Lack of many updated questions and practice in the recent exam trend
• Not well aligned with time to solve questions.

We would recommend you make a note of various possible combinations of your target score. The possible scores will help you track your performance after taking the mock or practice test. It will also help you maintain balance in both the sections, and you will always be in a great position to allot the study hours to a specific area accordingly.

The possible score combinations for 700 or 700+: Q should be Q 49, 50, 51, and V should be V38, 37, 36.

Follow the same procedure for Verbal. You may access a lot of free materials available on the GMAT club for Verbal.

In the end, make sure you have an error log for every day. Keep checking your performance by attempting as many mock tests as possible.

Regular tests will reflect the positive change in the score, and hence, your confidence will boost up. Gradually, with the help of mock tests, you will be able to compete with time and hence will be able to learn time-management.
