Think if you have seen any questions in first mock before? Also did you take proper timers in your first mock. Quant is again unpredictable in terms of the question variety. In your first first quant you might have got areas where you are good at. try not to jump to mocks directly, when you are ready you may not get real scores ; Focus more on individual sections in mocks such as sectional mocks. Any known test practice providers you that.

Hello rheche,

A score of 610 in the GMAT mock tells the entire story about how well prepared you are for the GMAT official test and how to change the gear now to meet the target score of 730+ in reality.

With my GMAT tutoring, guidance, and counseling experience, we have to accept a fact with a pinch of salt that diagnostic/ mock test scores are above then what one should expect in a real test. There is often dropping in the score. Some students have even experienced a drop of 100 pointers. It is one of the realities, and your preparation should not sideline this fact.

You can schedule a Comprehensive counseling session for 30 mins with one of our experts: https://calendly.com/mathrevolution/1-on-1-session for detailed advice on your current study plans.

A couple of things that can be a noticeable barrier to your scores would be some or all of the below.

• Inefficiency by using time-consuming Conventional method to tackle DS and PS questions still
• No expert support (maybe) who can tutor, analyze, and guide you during your learning especially on hard level questions while stably hitting middle-level questions.
• Lack of many updated questions and practice in the recent exam trend
• Not well aligned with time to solve questions.

Since we are a math expert, we will recommend you go through our post on the GMAT club: Breakdown of GMAT math questions and types: https://gmatclub.com/forum/overview-of- ... l#p1641411

We recommend that you must learn the Variable Approach for solving DS questions and the IVY approach for solving PS questions in order to improve your accuracy and save time while solving the question types.

Register with MathRevolution https://www.mathrevolution.com/member/signup to get access to our 7-day full on-demand course (27 topics, 490 subtopics, and 1,500 questions) for free trial lessons.

700+ level questions https://www.mathrevolution.com/gmat/questionbank are separately available, too. Start with the learning of the concepts. Make a habit of taking notes during the initial learning of the concepts.

The day regular mock tests show the consistent score of Q48+ with V37+, then it will reflect the positive change in the score, and hence, your confidence will boost up. Gradually, with the help of mock tests, you will be able to compete with time and therefore, will be able to learn time management.

We appreciate your time and patience in reading this reply.

Success is within your reach.
Good luck!

Hi all,

I took my first practice test cold (after just reviewing the basic guide in the OG book) on March 20th and ended up getting a 680 (Q43, V39, IR5). I wanted to take that first test without really prepping/studying to understand my baseline and felt pretty happy with my results. Based on that, I decided I wanted to first focus on tackling math so I bought the Manhattan All the Quant guide and have been studying from that for the past month. I've been averaging around 2-3 hours of studying a day for the past month and just finished going through the whole book yesterday, so decided to take another practice exam today to see how I was progressing.

As you can probably tell from the post title, it went AWFUL. I ended up getting a 610, with a breakdown of Q32, V41, IR4. I don't know what happened during the test, but I was really stressed out during the quant section and towards the end had only 10 minutes left to do the last 8 questions. I thought knowing the strategies from the book/being more familiar with the concepts would help, so I don't know how I dropped the ball this badly. Was my first practice test a fluke? Or the second one? I feel like I can't accurately gauge how I'm doing anymore. The one thing I can think of is that when I was going through the MGMAT book I wasn't solving problems from the OG at the same time (I was only going through the problem sets at the end of the chapter), and was also not really timing myself when I was doing the problem set questions. I understand why my score would maybe have not improved, but I cannot figure out why it dropped so drastically.

Does anyone have any insight or advice as to what caused this, or any recommendations to improve? I was thinking about TTP, but wasn't sure if that would be the best approach. I'm planning on taking my exam in June 21st, but I don't know if I should push that given this drop, as I was aiming for a score of 730+.

Hi rheche,

The score variation happens when your approach of solving questions is not consistent. Before suggesting you anything, I want to know whether you have used the right methods to solve questions in your first mock test or did you get lucky with a few questions. If you are not sure of this, please analyze your mock, go through the solution of each question and see if your approach and the approach in the solution are the same or not.

This will help us get an idea of how to proceed further. Please reach out to me over a call using the link below so that we can have a detailed discussion on what could have gone wrong and come up with a plan of action.
