How much time is required to clear GMAT with a score of 760+

Question

I am a working professional. I want to get into M7 mba programs. My target score is 760+ as my academics are very poor. How much time it will take me to get to 760+ score. I am currently at 700.

Depends. I had one 760 student who had actually started studying from September last year. They reached out to me in March after they gave an Official exam. They had gotten a V41 on that attempt. We did some verbal sessions and they ended up with a 760 V45 in about 10 days. Had another student last month  end up with a 760  who was in a similar situation.

At the end of the day, these are just anecdotes. Everyone is different. If a person, for example, gets a 690 Official Mock score with no preparation, the time they may have to spend for a 760 may be less than someone who starts at a score below 600.

How many days will it take to walk from X to Y?
Depends on how fast you walk, how many hours you walk every day, what route you take

Not a very helpful answer, but that's the way it is.

Also depends on your current positions in Verbal and Quant.
For example, if you are already at 50/51 in quant but just about 30+ in verbal, then you have more work to do.

If you are already around 700, 30-45 days should be enough for you to make the desired improvement based on your pace of learning if you follow a structured approach. The ideal thing would be to identify your weak areas and work on them. You have to analyze even the minute things and make sure to work on them.

Sir,

I graduated in mining engineering from IIT. I am in mid 30s

I have been working in SAIL for around 12 years. A few years ago I felt stuck, so I gave CAT for IIM colleges. Got 99.37 percentile was admitted in IIM Lucknow but couldn't join it due to personal reasons.

Now I feel i need to move to USA to have a better life. So, I am hoping to get into M7 colleges. So, i have decided to take GMAT. But now i have a very busy professional and personal life.

I also am having trouble with self discipline. I try to concentrate and study but am having some trouble.

Please advice accordingly

Have you spoken to admission consultants? They will be able to advise on which universities to target, what GMAT score to aim for, and so on.

I'll speak from personal experience. In March 2020, I took a practice GMAT without ever studying and got a 670. I spent approximately 300 hours studying and took just under 20 practice tests before taking it in December 2020 and getting a 760.

In my case, I was getting 720 on practice tests by May 2020 and 730-740 by July. I got my first 760 on a practice test in November 2020 (then managed to choke and get a 670 on my first actual GMAT). By the way, there's a fair amount of variability in your results +/- 20 pts in either direction. I was still getting occasional 720s and 710s even in November.

Well! That depends from person to person. My friend prepared well in 2 months while I had to toil day and night continuously for 5 months to achieve my target GMAT score.

But guys, the important thing is 'not to quit' and keep up the good work- working hard and smart on the exam. One thing is guaranteed for sure- 'your efforts will never be in vain. I started my GMAT journey with just a score of 610 on my first attempt. It was not going to anyhow land me into my target b-school, I knew. So I had to formulate strategies and I really did put a lot of effort into maintaining and revisiting my error log. This time, for my second GMAT attempt,  I really worked hard on working smart  and that made all the difference for me.

So, never give up, evaluate your strengths and weaknesses thoroughly. And act upon your strategies by being realist.

Practice, Strategize, Excel...
