Hi Jasty.

For that November deadline, you should probably take the current GMAT since the Focus Edition may be just coming out around then, so you may not know what score to shoot for and schools won't know what GMAT Focus scores mean.

In fact, some schools are saying they won't accept Focus Edition scores during this application cycle.

I would also recommend planning to take the classic GMAT. Several schools have announce that they are not quite ready for GMAT focus scoring in the valuation of applicants. It’s a very small number, it’s just too business schools - Harvard and Wharton. However, you never know if you University may follow that lead.

PS. You can always switch gears and take the focus addition without sentence correction but we still don’t know really if removing sentence correction is making the test harder or comparable or easier so the safest thing for you would be to take the classic GMAT and to plan for that.

Hi,

I'm planning to apply to some european universities.
In most of them I can do the gmat in december / january.
In one of them there is a early-bird application, which deadline is 15th of November, to which I would like to apply.

I heard that the new gmat focus tests will be available from Q4 2023.

Do you know if I will be able to do the gmat focus test?
If not, how I'm supposed to behave? Keep studying for the new test, and do the old version of the test in October?

Thank you.

Hi Jasty,

I agree that the safest move is to take the current version of the GMAT.

Hi Jasty

The new GMAT Focus Edition is set to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2023, in/ after October. Since you are planning an early-bird application in November, I suggest taking the current GMAT version, as some schools might not accept the Focus Edition score for R1/ R2.

In case you don't get your target score by Oct/ Nov, or would like to further improve it for your applications, you can take the Focus Edition once it's launched. Since you would have already prepared for Quant and Verbal, this would help your preparation for the Focus Edition. However, you would have to further prepare for the Data Insights section, which is basically IR + Data Sufficiency (from Quant), which will count towards the total Focus Edition score.

Hi Jasty,

As of right now, the Focus Edition is a bit of "moving target" with multiple open questions:
1. The exact date when it will become available
2. How the scores will compare to legacy GMAT and GRE scores
3. The difficulty of the new format
4. Prep tool availability
5. Whether you'll have time for a retake (hopefully you won't need it)

Prepping for the GMAT is already a solid challenge -- the last thing you need is a moving target.

I'd stick with the legacy GMAT prep process, add a little more weight to the IR section prep weighting and wait for new announcements later this summer.

Best of luck with the prep!

If we take a look to the new OGs here https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmac-officia ... 40610.html there actually no difference between the two versions

As such, the time spent and the concepts applied but geometry & SC are valid 100% for the new version.

All the chats, discussions, opinions, or else you could think about are just fillers and /or fluff

I hope this helps
