Hi,
I am a Non-Native and have been preparing for the GMAT for the past 4 months
I gave my gmat today and couldn't perform up to expectations.
Official Mock 3 - v28 q39 560 ( I missed 2 questions in each section)
4- v34 q47 650
5- v36 q44 660
6- v40 q44 680
My first genuine attempt was the 3rd Mock. IR scores were consistently 7, and I was practicing AWA daily by using the chineseburned template.
I had been preparing for verbal with extra focus as I knew the only way to touch 700 was by getting a good verbal score.
But on the exam I was very out of focus and was overwhelmed and scared by the language.
I need a score of at least 700. Planning to re-appear for the exam in October.
I don't know how I should proceed further. Should I take help from a personal tutor or just start focusing on the basics?

Hi. Sorry about that. A few ideas:
1. AWA and IR do not matter for admissions at this time for the classic version of the GMAT so dont spend any more time on those.
2. You need to focus all your energy on verbal. But before you do that, you need to figure out which specific area of verbal you need to address.
3. Alternatively, GMAT is changing sometime in the fourth quarter of this year and for someone in your situation, you can use your quantitative skills and integrated reasoning skills to potentially get a higher score on the new format. The new test drops sentence correction and adds integrated reasoning into the score calculation to simplify the changes.
4. Besides Verbal performance, I would also consider if you had a proper timing regiment on your test or if you ended up spending too much time and then had to rush through the questions at the end. There’s also severely diminish the score.
PS. Great job on the quantitative section. I will probably spend about 10% of your time to keep it fresh and maintain that high score but otherwise spend the rest of your 90% on Verbal, the first figure out which portion of the verbal you need to focus on more and then specifically which areas need to be addressed, for example if it’s critical reasoning, perhaps it’s assumptions or perhaps it’s conclusions or something else. But don’t ask questions on the level of meaning of life how do I improve my overall score because the answers you will receive will be unsatisfying.
