Trying to find the best preparation strategy

Hey everyone,

I wanted some guidance on the best strategy to prepare for the GMAT FE. I have already taken the test once and scored a 715 about a month ago. Although I understand that this is a decent score, I am looking for a score around 750.

I have already finished all the verbal and DI questions from the OG prep material and exhausted all the OG mocks (including 3-6, twice). I was adamant about making my first attempt the final one so I used all the resources I could get my hands on, now I have scheduled my test again and I have a month's time. I have also already used 60-70% of Target Prep material as well. At this point, I have no clue about what to do to increase my score. I cannot think of any other resources I can purchase or use to boost my prep.

Just to give more context, I had scored a 90 on the quant section and 84 and 83 on my verbal and DI sections. My weakest sections are verbal and DI. I can think of LSAT questions to prep for verbal but DI, I cannot think of any good resource to use.

Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thank you!

As per GMAT Score Concordance Table, 715 in GFE is roughly 750-760 in Classic. At this stage, perhaps you may want to go for 1-2-1 coaching with a GMAT tutor as only s/he will be able to advise you areas where you need to address. What got you up to here, may not be enough to take you where you want to go. Best wishes.

You may try taking up as many mocks as you can to be prepared for the test mode at least psychologically.

Given that you already have a 99% score, you most likely don't need to take the GMAT again. You also (again, most likely) have no major weaknesses.

If you're looking for new DI questions, you could look at the extra practice questions available on mba.com, as well as the new official guides (out soon).

So, the good news is that you are in a pretty nice spot!

That said, you do need to continue to find your holes and fix those to help improve your score. Thus, engaging in topical practice is a great way to do so. Let's use quant as an example.

For example, let’s say you want to practice Number Properties. You can do so by answering 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc.

After each problem set, it's crucial to delve into the questions you answered incorrectly. For instance, if you stumbled on a remainder question, take a moment to reflect. Was it a careless error? Did you fail to apply the remainder formula correctly? Was there a concept in the question that eluded you? This analysis is key to your learning process.

By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your GMAT quant skills. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant, verbal, and DI topics.
