Hi TtTt1212,

Regarding prep courses, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Hi nosaj,

Thank you so much for your tips and explanations! I will try to do the same. You're right, just 30 qns per day might not be enough. I want to attempt more especially my weaker areas. How many questions are you able to do per day/recommend one does per day?
You mentioned you are also trying to follow some parts of GMATNinja's study plan, when you say it pushes you to do a large volume of questions, are you following the plan from week 1 up until your exam or trying to condense it from 13 weeks to 5-6 weeks?(based on what time you have left I mean)
Are you also following the resources mentioned in Gmatninja's weekly plan or sticking with TTP resources?
I took another official mock test and scored 645 on it( about 1 month after my previous mock, the one I had bombed), I still have a long way to go and will avoid mocks until I am more sure of avoiding mistakes/errors.
I really appreicate you responding in great detail to my questions, it's been super helpful :)
All the best to you as well!

How often should one take practice tests? I took the official gmat test #1 and bombed it (this is about 1.5 weeks of prep). This was about a month ago. I have been studying since then, but am not super confident yet.

I plan to schedule my exam in another month
Q1. Does it make sense to take official mock tests every 2 weeks or every week to see where I stand?
OR Is it recommended to take them towards the end when I am almost done with my prep?
Q2. Can you please recommend useful resources I can use to study throughout this month?
I have watched and practiced from GmatNinja's videos on YouTube for Verbal and little bit of DI (loved these, but since i have completed them i am looking for other sources to practice). Is Quant from GMATninja also useful?
i want to do @gmatninja's 13 week study plan but unfortunately do not have that long.
I am trying to solve questions from GMAT CLUB with source as OG / Gmat Prep and increasing the difficulty level, but am able to get time to do only about 10 qns per V/Q/DI per day. Is this sufficient? Any other recommendations are welcome!!
Q3. I Have completed the OG questions for quants, verbal and DS. I am considering buying the official DI practice questions or the official DI review e-book. Is one better than the other? I don't understand what the differences between these are.
Any inputs on any of these queries will be mucchh appreciated, thanks in advance!
Hi,

Hope all is well and solid efforts on working through GMAT Ninja! Hope this helps, I am trying to present my view along with what i've learnt from test prep companies (TTP) and GMATNinja's study plan.

Q1. Both TTP and GMATNinja recommend taking the the official mocks towards the end of their test plans (e.g. last 4 weeks of the GMAT Ninja Study plan here - https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-ninja-s ... 00295.html). Separately TTP sequences their exams after all study milestones are completed and leave a gap of 3-4 days between each exam. Personally, I have taken mocks during my study and have been met with multiple <600 scores - I believe taking them at the WRONG time (e.g. when you're mid way through theory such as a maths topic or a type of CR question can really distract you from the exam mindset and skills). I'd recommend to give 1-1.5 weeks focusing on topics or areas of weakness (e.g. specific question types etc) and then have a 2-2.5 week period leading up to your next exam).

Q2. I am also planning to take the exam in a bit less than a month now. I started the GMAT Ninja plan about two weeks ago, I will not be able to follow it exactly 100%. But it pushes me to do volume of questions and has really invigorated my war on silly mistakes (which have been holding me back for sure). Personally, I don't think 10 V/Q/DI questions per day is sufficient because that <50% of the real test and won't help you develop your mental stamina for the test. If you are limited to 30 questions per day, I'd suggest maybe doing 15 V, 15 Q and the next day 15 DI, 15 V or OR (depending on weakness) - after 10 questions your brain might start getting foggy, this is when you need to develop the skills / practices to re-focus. How long do you spend on the 30 or so questions? (1 hour? 2 hours?). I think finding the time to do longer sets will definitely be worthwhile (if your schedule permits)

Q3. I think the official DI review e-book gives you more practice questions (200+ not in the OFFICIAL GUIDE) vs the DI practice (100+, doesn't state whether these overlap with the official guide).

Hope this helps! Best of luck

Hey TtTt1212
I have the time at the moment to do 25 quant, 25 verbal, 25 DI a day. Note this is specifically more than in the exam but follows the GMATNinja plan. I find that anything beyond that, I make more silly mistakes and in that case, there is no point because it is just reinforcing bad habits.

Yes although GMATNinja does not recommend condensing the plan, I am trying to condense it to 6-7 weeks given I have some time off work.

I am following the GMATNinja weekly plan, which focuses on questions from OG or the GMATClub or LSAT. I found TTP questions to not be as good versus these other sources, the platform is great for learning foundational theory especially for quant.

Best of luck with the next month of study, our efforts will pay off!

Hi nosaj,

That sounds like a good amount of questions to do per day! May I know where you are solving these from? You mentioned that you are not following GMATNinja's plan which focuses on OG / GmatClub/LSAT, but also that TTP is not that great. Is there another trusted source one can use to practice from? Or did you mean these OG/Gmatclub/LSAT qns are better to practice from?

Thanks again!

Sorry typo - too many CR double negative questions ;) yes I am following the TTP plan - using old OGs/Quant Guides (that I got from friends) and the recent 2023-2024OG + GMAT Club

Based on my experience preparing for the GMAT, here’s what worked well for me:

  1. Start with a diagnostic mock test.
Take one mock test at the very beginning of your prep to understand your baseline score and identify areas of strength and weakness. This helps tailor your study plan from the get-go.
  2. Phase 1: Study-first approach (1-2 months before exam).
In the early stages of prep, I recommend focusing more on learning and practicing specific question types rather than taking too many mocks. You could aim for 1 mock every 2-3 weeks during this period, primarily to monitor progress and ensure you’re comfortable with timing and stamina.
  3. Phase 2: Increase mock frequency (last 4-6 weeks).
As your exam date approaches (around 4-6 weeks before the test), mock tests become essential to building endurance and refining timing strategy. At this point, I increased the frequency to 1 mock per week. You want to ensure that you’re not just taking mocks but thoroughly reviewing your mistakes and focusing on the areas where you can still improve.
  4. Final Phase: Intensive period (last 2 weeks).
In the last two weeks, I took 2-3 mocks per week but spaced them out to allow for full review and recovery. This period is less about learning new material and more about refining test-day strategies, improving timing, and getting used to sitting through the exam.

Hi @ChingWang

Thanks for your inputs! How did your GMAT exam go?
What resources did you use for GMAT mocks? you mentioned 2-3 per week towards the end of prep, and as the official mocks are limited, I am wondering if there are some free/paid ones you used?
