Hi, I have been studying pretty hard for the GMAT since April. On my first practice exam I scored a 495. Since April, I've been consistently studying averaging around 15-20 hours per week while working full time. I signed up for and went through the the
Manhattan Prep online course, and have watched countless GMATNinja videos on Youtube, along with going through the entire 2023-2024 OG multiple times.
Doing this has allowed me to improve my score to consistently be around the 585 range with my best mock being a 605. Today I just took the official GMAT and scored a 585 with the below score breakdown
Total: 585
Quant: 70
Verbal: 84
DI: 83
I was slightly disappointed in my verbal score as I had been consistently getting around 86 on my mocks but overall, I feel the score is a pretty accurate representation of where I'm at. I have spent over 90% of my study time on Quant as I just can't seem to figure it out. My mock exam quant scores would fluctuate with my worse being a 67 and my best being a 79 and more consistently being in the 72-73 range.
I am considering signing up for the
Target Test Prep online program (as I've heard their quant material is excellent) and taking the exam again in December. Would I be able to see a decent score increase? My goal score would be a 655+ as I want to apply to NYU, Columbia, HBS, and a couple other scores. I feel overall I am a strong candidate outside of my test score, I could use another year of work experience in a perfect world but I want to change careers.
1. As MBAACCOUNT2025 points out, it'd be a good idea to retake. If you can increase your quant score, you're most likely looking at a much higher total score.
2. As for verbal, there is hardly any difference between 84 and 86. A little variation is normal, and you shouldn't worry about it.
3. It's good to see that you got a Q79 on one of your practice tests, but given that you're normally around Q72-73, you most likely need to work on the basics. Any good prep resource should be fine, but since you want to retake relatively soon, you could also consider working with a quant tutor. That should make the entire process much faster.
All the best.
