Hi. I did change the section order this time to experiment. Usually i take the Q-DI-V approach, but this time i did V-DI-Q. But will something as trivial as section order be the major cause for a 40-60 point drop?
Also, regarding the familiar Qs in the old mocks, almost all the mocks had rougly 2-3 Qs that i had done before, which could cause an inflation in score.

Hi Shiladitya123,

While drops in mock scores do happen, why they happen is something that you should evaluate.
It could have been a bad day, like you said. But it could also be that you faced questions from topics you weren't comfortable with, or maybe made more careless errors, or time management didn't work on in some cases, or you could have faced some familiar questions in previous mocks and not in this; there could be various reasons.

You would have to analyze why you made the mistakes you made and compare them with previous mocks to check if there is something you need to fix.
And once you do, if you need any help fixing any issue or anything, you can update here, and other users or experts could pitch in their inputs.

P.S. Also, do check if you have taken the mocks at the same time of day, or changed your section order, etc. Even those could affect your scores. Anything that is different from your previous mocks to this one will be helpful for you to account for the difference.

Hope this helps!
All the best!

Hi. Thanks mate, I am trying my best to keep calm and not panic, but have to start evaluating where it may have gone wrong, which is feeling a bit easier said than done. Regarding DI, it is the second time while writing a mock that i had to rush my last 3 DI answers, so i have to tighten up my speed for the DI section. Also i did change up my section order to experiment. Usually I go for the Q-DI-V route, but this time i did V-DI-Q.

Hey, first thing — don't spiral. A single mock drop this close to exam day is way more common than people think, and your trajectory (585 → 675 → 655 → 615) tells a more nuanced story than "I'm declining."

A few things worth checking: One, what were the test conditions? Fatigue, distractions, or just a rough morning can tank a score by 30–50 points in isolation — that's not a trend, that's a bad day. Two, look at your DI section — it went from 82 to 79, which is where a lot of people bleed points when they stop actively pacing the Data Insights section. Three, with 15 days left, the worst thing you can do is cram harder. The best thing is to do timed drills on your two or three weakest sub-areas, keep one full mock in reserve for confidence, and protect your sleep.

Your 675 on Mock 2 is real — your brain got there once, it knows the way. Focus on execution, not panic.

Yes, it does. It is always difficult for your mind to adapt to a new setting on the first try, so it helps to get comfortable with the section order you plan to use on test day. This way, your mind does not have to spend extra energy figuring out pacing or where to conserve effort during the exam.

Different section orders can also lead to different outcomes, so it is worth trying a few options and then sticking with the one that feels most natural and allows you to perform at your best.

At the same time, it is not advisable to experiment with too many new things close to your test date, as that can increase your anxiety.

Given your mock score progression, I think you can chalk up the latest test to a bad day.

For the next 15 days, continue identifying and strengthening all remaining areas of weakness. Also, when answering practice questions, for each question you get wrong, ask yourself:
- Did I make a careless mistake?
- Did I incorrectly apply a related formula/property/technique?
- Did I fall for a trap answer? If so, what was the trap exactly?
- Was there a concept I did not understand in the question?

By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your skills. This process has been proven to be effective for all topics.

Not quite panicking, but still concerned, as my GMAT exam is just about 15 days away. Why the sudden drop though? Could it be due to overconfidence or just a bad day in general? How to recuperate from the setbacks to make sure i am at my 100% capability on exam day?
Hi Shiladitya123,

It's great to be (and we try to be) at 100% on test day, but don't think of that as a necessary condition. The test isn't over until it's over. :)

All the best!
