Can someone please give me some insight on how long I should spend on studying the GMAT? 3 months? 6 months? I'm looking to score at least a 700 on the exam, and would like to get this exam taken care of ASAP, as I have have the CFA to work on as well. I work full time so I only have nights and weekends to do this.. I've been also thinking about taking the Manhattan GMAT prep course to help me study..Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you think you cannot manage time on your own, then go through one of the online classes ( cheaper and better than most of the live classes) I recommend GMAXonline.com which I am taking or Knewton which is supposedly good for online classes.

How many months are needed - it depends on each person, I would say for a working individual who can put in 2 hours weekdays and 6 hours weekends, needs 5-6 months of prep time.

As others have stated: It depends. Most people take about 2-3 months, studying 5-20 hours/week. I wouldn't recommend studying for much longer than 3 months, but some people do it. It's all a matter of how many hours/week you're studying. You should try to study at least 30 minutes every day.

I feel that on an average 250-300 hours of prep (excluding full-length mocks) spread over 3-4 months along with 7-8 full length mocks dispersed throughout the prep period is a good estimate. Obviously these figures need to fine-tuned depending upon the profile of the person in question.

Ok, given what people are saying on here, I think I will probably give myself around 5 months to study for this thing..Can anyone say anything about Manhattan GMAT's online courses versus in person 9 week sessions?

I would not drag it out more than 4 months. 3 is the best trade off between learning new material and forgetting old.

They don't compare the online course to the live one head to head, but this will give you an idea.
