Hey everyone,
Long time lurker here. Looking for some advice on whether or not I should apply to UW Foster's Evening MBA next year (first deadline is late-January 2018).
Stats:
Undergrad GPA: 2.3
Degree: BA in Philosophy
GMAT: 700 (Quant: 42, Verbal: 44, AWA: 6.0)
Here's my background:
I graduated from a Top 50 university back in 2013 with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. Due to various personal reasons, my performance in college was abysmal and led to the incredibly sub-par GPA of 2.3 by time of graduation. Following graduation, I got a job in retail because I needed a job fast to pay rent and had no other prospects. I followed that up with 2 years working at a law firm (long story...) where I was promoted from legal assistant to a paralegal during that time.
While at the law firm, I did a ton of research/self-reflection and decided that I would like to pursue an MBA. I studied for the GMAT for a solid 5 months and was able to bring home a 700 on the first try. At the same time, I matriculated in an accounting course at a local community college and subsequently got a 4.0 (I figured this may help ease my undergrad GPA pain-point). However, after further thought I decided that it may not be the best time to do MBA as my lack of business experience in combination with my terrible GPA would likely have led to all dings so I put my B-School dreams on ice and began to job hunt.
I landed a job at a large tech company in Seattle working in Sales Operations, where I have been since April 2016. I enjoy this industry very much and have a desire to one day become a project/program manager. It has become more and more clear that, in order to accelerate my career, now may be a good time to go for my MBA on a part-time basis so I can gain the needed work experience while also going to school. As I reside in Seattle and would like to remain here, Foster's Evening MBA proves to be the most viable option (along with possibly Seattle University).
I'm hoping to get any and all advice this forum may have for me. My current thoughts are possibly going back to a community college to take a few more courses to beef up the post-grad GPA and apply to Evening MBA program in January for Fall 2018 matriculation.
