Career progression..how crucial?

Question

I've worked for 3 companies in 5 years. The two most recent ones major well known companies, the first a small company but gained good experience in my 1.5 years there. How detrimental will this be to my application? I've heard that career progression is what they look for.

Career progression doesn't have to be with the same company. If you were exposed to new opportunities, larger scale projects, and more leadership because of each change then that's all you have to say. In the case of switching companies the why is just as important as the what.

It should be mix of career progression and core word CHANGE. You always should be seeking for change.

Personally I think that your experience is a good example. Next task is to deliver to adcom what were your incentives for change and how do you see you in future

Business schools will be looking at career progression because they want to see candidates who are driven and are looking to make an impact. Career progression naturally follows this.

For your career, look for opportunities where you can take on greater responsibilities and lead/manage others. These will be the experiences that you can discuss and will be the ones that admissions teams will want to read about.

my understanding is that big/small company does not matter as much as what you personally do and what you learn.
progression is shown thru taking on increased responsibility, not through working for "better" companies. you might work for a more presitigious company but not progress at all.
