Does anyone know how the International GPAs compare to the 4.0 scale? I am specifically interested in the percentage system that is used by Universities in India.
I am a little tired of hearing ' Please do not convert your GPA' and 'Adcoms have great knowledge of the grading systems used in different countries'. Well, that's great, but how do I know how my GPA ranks against the average GPA of a particular business school - when these average GPAs are mentioned in the 4.0 scale and my GPA is not in that scale - and I have no way of knowing how to compare these?
For example, a 70% grade (a very respectable score in Indian Universities) would mathematically convert to a 2.8 GPA, which is unimaginably low for MBA admissions. So I can't imagine that sort of linear conversion is the right way to go, seeing as so many Indian students get admitted to US B schools. So then, what is a reasonable way to compare?
I'd appreciate some clarity on this. If there are any current students on these forums, particularly folks who have been part of the Student Admissions Committees in their schools, I'd love to hear from you.

Please do a search or go back a few pages there are a number of posts that have the same question. In short, the adcom understands the variation from international GPA to the US structure. Your 770 GMAT says enough also

I don't think the OP is concerned about the AdCom being able to appropriately assess the GPA, but moreso that he wants to know the translation so that he can assess his chances at schools who give their avg GPA in a 4.0 scale.
