How to convert UG overall grades from percentages ( e.g 250 marks out of 500 = 50%) to a GPA out of 4 or whatever applicable?I calculated my 70.4% grade to be 2.816~2.82 is this correct?

It is not correct... Schools most often do not ask you to convert Percentages to GPA... I think 2.75 is the minimum GPA required to pass and 4 is the highest possible.. So, if you want to do any approximation, you can liken your minimum pass percentage to 2.75 and minimum percentage for the highest grade (eg: First Class) to be 4 and interpolate to find your GPA. Again, it will only be an approximation....
