Mentioning a nonMBA school at your desired Univers in essays

Hey,

Just brainstorming ideas here and I wanted to know what everyone thinks about writing about other schools in the university (that aren't part of the B school) in your essay. For example: If I was applying to Wharton and I wrote that besides other things I was also excited to have the opportunity to network with people in the Law school at Penn.
Would this have a positive, negative or no affect on my application.

It's impossible for any of us to answer that without the context of why networking with students in other UPenn schools relates to your application. For some people's goals the larger university matters. For others, not so much. However, Wharton's essays tend to be very limited on word count. Do you want to waste precious space talking about the law school? I think you need to figure out what's the most effective information you need to convey in an essay.

Wharton was just an example. 
But lets say you are trying to enter a new industry which you have no experience in, wouldn't being in touch with another great school where all the people come from that industry be an important thing for you?

Then I'd wonder why you weren't applying to that school within the university instead. I think it's going to depend on the school. Some schools like to tout the broader university resources (Johnson comes to mind). In this case it might make sense to talk about interacting and taking classes at other schools. You just need to know your schools well to know where it will be better received.
