Hi all,
I'm in the very beginning of the MBA application process.I have come to notice that many of the schools require recommenders to submit responses to specific questions and to submit them online directly. Now, does that mean i have to ask the recommenders to send their letters to each and every program that i plan on applying for? Wouldn't that be very troublesome and time-consuming for the recommenders (especially if i wanted to apply to multiple programs?) How did you guys ask your recommenders?
Please advise.

Hi there,
There's no way around this - recommendations take time and your table pounders will need to dedicate a significant chunk of time to your applications. However, this is what they're signing up for and it's not that uncommon. If they've done this before, they'll understand how this works. If they haven't, they'll require significant coaching and prepping. However, either way, don't feel bashful asking those who support you to do just that!
However, let me ask you this - how many schools are you applying to? Typically, you don't want to have a single recommender write recommendations to more than 4/5 schools. 5 is pushing it. 3 - 4 is the sweet spot.

It is definitely a tough challenge to have. My advice would be to start very early and be strategic on who you chose. I was applying to roughly 10 schools and knew that I was going all-in this year and did not want to re-apply. I had a rough pool of about 10 recommenders, and about 3 to 4 who knew me very well and who I knew would submit the letters very timely. I basically divided up the recommenders to different schools so they would only have to do about 3-4 schools each.
Since July/Aug is usually when most apps come open, the recommendation letters are there for them to submit. Since 1st round due dates are not usually until Sep/Oct/Nov, I would start right now if not much earlier.
I basically started to reach out during May/June timeframe and gave my recommenders until end of August to submit. I finished letter submissions for round 1 by Sep for all recommenders and my first round 1 app was due in Nov, about a two month window.
