Hi,
Thank you in advance for any comments and advice. What do you think my chances are being admitted to the M7 schools, Haas, Yale, and UCLA? Also, if you have suggestions on which schools to target, please let me know. I am planning to apply R1 and R2.
MBA Goals: I hope to transition from an engineering consultant role on the consumer side of the energy/cleantech industry to a business strategy role for a cleantech firm focused on clean energy products or services, such as Cypress Creek Renewables or Tesla.
Age: 27 years old
GMAT: 750 (Q48, V46, IR 8, AWA 5.0) - took it once
Undergrad Degree: Environmental Engineering (Top 15 Engineering School)
GPA: 3.385 (I had some personal/family hardships during college, which affected my grades 1st and 2nd year. GPA 3rd and 4th year was much higher 3.66. I will write about it in my essays.)
Work Experience (5 years total):
Current - 3 years as an energy engineer/consultant for a small boutique (25 person) engineering and program management consulting firm focused in the energy industry in California. I have not been formally promoted (Mainly due to total years of experience expected by the owners of my company. For a senior engineer (the next position up), the owners expect 5 years of experience from the energy industry. They only consider my previous experience as 1 year.). My responsibilities have been growing every year and I do a lot of the same work that other senior engineers at my firm do. I believe my recommender (my supervisor) will attest to this.
Previous - 2 years as an validation engineer for a large pharmaceutical corporation. Even though this position wasn't directly related to my degree, I took the job because it was the first well paying position I was offered after months of applying after graduation.
Extra Curricular Activities:
1. Held various leadership roles for a national Catholic Youth Group. I started in high school and held positions until 2nd year of college. At the highest role I was the leader of the Southern California region. Activities included organizing meetings, retreats, community service events, hosting national conferences.
2. Help coach basketball team of my alma mater.
3. Helped revitalize/organize weekly basketball pick up games at my previous employer.
