Regarding Letter of Recommendations

Hello,

I am required to submit 2 letters of recommendations as part of my MBA applications to some of the schools.

I'm providing 1 letter of recommendation from my current supervisor at work.

For my 2nd recommendation, I have the following options:
1. The head of a partner organization that my current organization is collaborating with.
2. I served in the executive committee of a Toastmasters club in New Delhi the last year. Would you recommend that I get the 2nd letter from the president who was leading me in my term?
3. My mentor in the volunteer organization I was contributing towards. This contribution was from December 2019 to Feb 2020. I haven't contributed since then because of the lockdown.

Hi  rohanb1991 . This is a great question. To select your second recommender, I would think beyond their title and the organization they represent. Instead, think about how closely they've worked with you and the skills they are likely to showcase due to the nature of your collaboration. The best recommendations confirm claims you've made about yourself in essays (i.e. I am a great team player) with detailed examples to support the recommender's opinions. In addition, it's nice when the two recommendations complement each other, in that they showcase slightly different skills instead of overlapping entirely. It's hard to know from what you've written which person would be best to ask, but hopefully this guidance helps direct your thinking. Good luck!

Hello!

Thanks so much for your response! This has been very helpful. While the 1st recommendation will tend to highlight my professional skills, I feel that my mentor at the NGO I volunteered at would shed a light on my extra cirricular skills. Now I need to decide between my NGO mentor and my Toastmasters colleague, in terms of credibility and relevance.
