I'm currently working in a financial services firm in global markets for the past 3.5 years, I'm planning to apply next year and wish to continue working in the financial services sector post MBA.
I've been running a blog on Instagram (@friskymarkets) for more than a year now, posting on finance/economics/investing trying to explain concepts and visualize data. The blog has roughly 5k followers now and the content has been getting a good reception from friends and strangers alike. For now, I've been doing it as a hobby, posting content that I find interesting.
But many people have suggested that this blog can be of great help in my application itself and since I have a few months before I start my application, I would like to know if there's a particular direction that I can take the blog or shape it in a certain way so that it strengthens my profile? I too realize that it can be particularly helpful given I presently work and want to continue working in finance and the blog is also on the same topic.

It is great that you are blogging about substantial matters and have a following. You can definitely mention that as something you do in your spare time and is of interest. The $100,000 question you have to answer is "what impact does it have?" There is nothing wrong if you do it merely in your spare time but it might also have limitations to how far you can promote it as a major accomplishment in your application.
Since you are not applying until next year, can you think of ways to expand it somehow? That would really show your ability to take an interest to the "next level."
